ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

WE ARE TAKING OUR CITY BACK.

Hello!

I’m Elizabeth Golluscio, and I’m running for City Council to help make our district 5 neighborhoods safe, peaceful and vibrant.

FAQs:

  • All 51 NYC council seats are up for election on November 7, 2023.

Due to the 2020 census and subsequent redistricting, there is a special, 2-year City Council election this year. Then, in 2025, the City Council will go back to a 4-year term, and we can also elect a new Mayor.

If my neighbors in District 5 want me to represent Roosevelt Island and the eastern avenues from 59th to 96th streets on the Upper East Side, I will serve as your humble public servant for 2 years.

  • I’ve had a long technology and business career, after earning my engineering degree from Cornell, and my MBA from MIT… and look forward to applying my skills to help our neighborhood.

I’ve lived in Carnegie Hill for ~15 years, and served on the board of my Coop for a few years after first moving into the neighborhood, from the west side. My two sons attended the La Scuola d’Italia on East 96th St, for their early school years, and are now in public high schools.

After the last few years of disastrous policies, we now face tough challenges like drug use and unemployment, which drive crime and homelessness. We need to work locally to apply novel solutions, not just pass more and more legislation.

I’ve spent my career in the software industry, building innovation digital solutions for all sorts of industries. Most recently, I was a Managing Vice President at Gartner, leading the team of research analysts who advise clients on their software design & development strategies. I started there in 2015, covering application architecture and integration topics as a Research Analyst.

Prior to Gartner, I held a variety of roles in product management, marketing and sales in early-stage software start-ups, experiencing a wide variety of opportunities and challenges, e.g. helping raise VC funding, launching new products, working abroad to integrate newly acquired businesses, an IPO, etc. I’ve lived and worked in Australia, Ireland, and Italy.

I’ve completed dozens of marathons, half marathons and triathlons, and have recently become a Crossfit enthusiast, so you’re likely to find me in Central Park or at the gym.

  • I’m running to help revive our local economy, find housing for the homeless sleeping on our streets, and work with everyone to reduce crime.

I’ve been truly shocked to see what’s happened to our neighborhood since 2020. The homelessness, crime, eBike chaos, garbage and drug use in 2023 is devastating to witness… and the non-stop fear-mongering from elected officials is maddening.

I am a grown woman, and Eric Adams is not my savior nor my doctor (and neither is Ashwin Vasan, the NYC Dept of Health commissioner); neither of these men have any authority over my body, nor yours. Who says they have the authority to shut down and drive our local economy into the ground?

Eric says he may need to use mandates again. I say never again.

  • My platform is pretty simple; I have 1 priority: Transparency.

Why don’t we build a simple web and mobile interface to see how, exactly, our $106+ BILLION dollars is being spent?

Sunlight is the best disinfectant and we all know that our city government is in deep need of a deep cleaning!

  • We need to focus on the root problems that drive crime: unemployment, drug use and despair.

Crime was up 30+% in our neighborhood in 2022, as compared to 2021, according to the reports from Police Precinct 19. See this report.

I strongly encourage you to join me for our monthly Community Council meetings, the first Tuesday night of the month at the Precinct on E67th St..

These meetings are highly educational and you’ll find out exactly what the challenges are: (1) the Precinct is understaffed and (2) overwhelmed with issues.

We need to work together with our local officers to find new solutions (and we need to vote out those who want to defund, devalue and demoralize our NYPD).

  • I fully support Int 1099-2023 and will sign on as a sponsor if elected.

We should honor our promises to NYC public service retirees. How is it possible that we can afford billions of dollars to house, clothe and feed illegal immigrants, but cannot afford to cover the healthcare benefits that were promised to the women and men who worked as our teachers, police, firefighters, sanitation workers, etc.? Keep up with the facts and rhetoric of this issue here.

  • Is it a ‘migrant’ or an ‘illegal immigration’ crisis? New Yorkers can’t seem to agree on how to refer to the men and women who’ve come across our southern border illegally.

Most of us in NYC are immigrants or recent descendants... I, myself, married a legal immigrant, and he gained his U.S. citizenship through our marriage. My mother’s family came from Ireland, and my father’s came from Italy, but I must have missed my grandparents’ stories of how they got taken care of, like children, when they arrived!

So what can we do? We could repeal our sanctuary city status. We could stop all the housing, food and clothing incentives that are driving more and more to come here. We could build a simple app to support a much larger lottery system per country, if we want to welcome millions to our country every year. Heck, we could fly some in NYC home cheaper than taking care of them indefinitely! We could also admit that they ARE working; just look around District 5 and you’ll see them working every day… they just aren’t paying ~55% tax rates like the rest of us!

  • Local Law 97 is a great example of a law written by legislators who don’t understand science. Do you know where electricity “comes from”? Do they?? ;)

Buildings over 25,000 sq. ft. (new or old!) will have limits on their emissions starting NEXT YEAR, and many large buildings in District 5 will be facing enormous fines every year if they don’t convert to ‘electric boilers’…

Do the puppets in local politics not know how electricity is made, or what causes brownouts and blackouts?! I will work hard to repeal this law.

See this excellent article for more details on this issue.

  • Trash, rats and graffiti have followed the lockdowns and draconian policies implemented in 2020 and 2021.

Our neighborhood shops and restaurants were forced out of business or onto the streets. Graffitied empty storefronts, smoke shops selling cannabis, fast food chains and ‘pop up shops’ have replaced them.

If we want a safe, clean and vibrant neighborhood again, we cannot allow Eric Adams, or his appointees, to have dictatorial authority over our businesses or our lives.

  • Our local police in Precinct 19 have confiscated hundreds of eBikes, and it’s a huge problem in our neighborhood.

We have many young children and elderly, who are at risk of being hit by bikers riding on sidewalks, against traffic, and running red lights. We need to work with our local businesses and police on this issue; many mopeds are not licensed, but should be. I support LL758 to ensure they are licensed.

Nearly every day, I calmly ask a eBiker or moped rider on the sidewalk to move to the street. They are usually pretty receptive to my suggestion!

Also consider this when ordering take-out; please note with your order that you want the delivery staff to ride safely and slowly.

  • We have 30-40ft. 5G antennas being erected in our neighborhood; one’s right in front of the playground and soccer field at Asphalt Green.

A staff member for our current council representative told me “it’s out of our hands”. It’s only out of our hands if we decide it’s out of our hands.

In fact, some concerned neighbors made their voices heard at a Community Board meeting and plans were ‘paused’. Thank you, everyone!

Eric Adams thinks he can have the OTI (Office of Technology and Innovation) deploy this technology with CityBridge or other 3rd party, commercial operators, regardless of what the neighborhood wants.

    Is that true?

There are valid concerns about visual blight but let’s also speak up about the potential health risks of this hardware: if this is news to you, please consider researching the topic. You might start here.

  • Yes - how about freedom?!

If another fear-mongering campaign is waged, knowing what you know now, will you comply again? Will you let an unelected official like the Department of Health commissioner force you to close your business??

My body is my property, and no other man or woman has any authority over my property. My body, my choice. (Did some Democrats forget their favorite slogan?!)

  • Thanks for asking!
